Rebel 500 seat upgrades — budget pad to premium Corbin
If you ride more than 30 minutes at a stretch, the stock Rebel 500 seat will let you know. The foam is firm, the profile is flat, and the cover compresses quickly. Fortunately, the upgrade path is well-worn — every tier from a gel overlay to a hand-molded Corbin is available for the CMX500.
Tier 1 — Gel pad overlay (~$25–40)
A universal memory-foam or gel pad straps over the existing seat. It adds immediate cushion with zero commitment. Downsides: the pad shifts on aggressive braking, it looks temporary, and it adds height to a bike whose low seat is part of the appeal.
Best for: Riders who want to test whether more cushion actually helps before spending real money. Available on Amazon AU/US.
Tier 2 — OEM Honda custom seat (~$120 USD)
Honda sells two factory upgrade seats for the CMX300/500: black diamond-stitch (08R76-K87-A30ZA) and buffalo brown (08R76-K87-A30ZB). Same mounting points as stock, slightly different foam shape, and noticeably better cover material.
Best for: Riders who want a factory-fit upgrade without aftermarket risk. Look for these by part number on eBay or Amazon.
Tier 3 — Saddlemen or VastMT (~$150–300)
Saddlemen Step-Up seats offer a stepped rider/passenger profile with optional gel inserts. Sold through RevZilla, Cycle Gear, and Amazon. The step keeps you from sliding back under acceleration — a real comfort improvement on longer rides.
VastMT (eBay storefront) sells budget OEM-shaped replacements with slightly thicker foam. Quality varies; read recent reviews before ordering.
Tier 4 — Mustang or Corbin (~$350–500+)
Mustang Wide Touring seats are hand-made in the USA with proprietary foam. They are wider and flatter than stock, which redistributes pressure across more surface area. Mustang runs a Brand Ambassador programme — pricing is retail but the seat is a genuine upgrade.
Corbin Classic and Dual Touring seats are the gold standard for the Rebel 500 and 1100. Each seat is made to order with your choice of cover material. Corbin does not run an affiliate programme — these are editorial recommendations only.
Best for: Riders who commute daily or tour on the Rebel and have already decided the bike is a keeper.
Fitment notes
- All seats listed here fit the CMX500 2017+ unless noted. The 2024+ E-Clutch model uses the same seat pan.
- Passenger seat compatibility — some aftermarket solo seats remove the pillion mounting points. Confirm two-up capability if you carry a passenger.
- Height change — thicker seats raise effective seat height by 10–25 mm. If the Rebel’s low seat height is why you bought it, test-sit before committing.
